This isn't a temporary condition, either. I believe once per week dosing like that is not sufficient. API dosing schedules are rather light.

Fertilizing won't discourage the cycle, at least not that I know of. In my tank, I use Excel, and due to the growth, I supplement with ferts using EI.
Some have said fish waste alone is sufficient...

Unless I'm wrong, BBA, Black Beard and Black Brush algae are all the same. And proper frets help to fix that.

I think spot algae is usually a phosphorous deficiency, but I could be wrong.

For those looking for a fast answer, simply multiply your Excel dose by .6 and dose that amount in Metricide.
