1000 psi sounds right. It will vary a somewhat according to room temp but 1000 psi is around where it should be. You should open the cylinder's valve all the way, and the psi I will NOT go up anymore...

I'd advise against scouring pads since they can put millions of fine scratches into the glass. Been there done that. Just use a good product and elbow grease to get the job done.
