Assuming your doing your 50% or more weekly water changes & correct lighting, your plants should thrive with tap water

Going to R/O for soft water is more of a fish issue than a plant issue.

I use Seachem Equilbrium to set my GH and Seachem Alkaline Buffer to set mt KH,

I aim for 4-5 KH and 7-8 GH for my type of fish.
