The Cobalt EXT is a great canister that is about $100 at Ken's. I'm also fond of Eheim Classics.. I have a Sun Sun and think it is fine, but a step below the others.

Also, are you sure all the air is out of the canister?

When one of my Eheims slow down, I usually find that crud has built up, typically at the quick disconnect valves on the intake, or in the intake tube that attaches to the canister body.

Eheims are great, and I think either a 2215 or 2217 would be fine. I'd also recommend a Cobalt E X T. Much easier to clean and to prime, due to its unusual use of an external pump. I have one on a...

Cobalt E X T. It's a little big for your tank, but you could dial down the flow. It doesn't need to be below the tank.

Either an Eheim 2213 or 2215 would be good. I've got a 2213 on a 30 gallon tank. Some folks will tell you it's underpowered for that size tank, but my experience says it isn't. If you're keeping...

80F is a little warm for most corydoras. Sterbai and Gossei are two types that like that temperature, but most prefer mid-70s.

HOBs are typically noisier than canisters. I second all the Eheim endorsements. The Cobalt filter is also dead quiet, because the pump can be placed in the tank.

Yes, I have, as have a couple of friends of mine. It works very well and is very easy to clean. I've got it on a 40 breeder; I think it would be okay on a 55.

I think you could have four Bolivian rams in a 55. I've done it before with some success, although they never bred successfully until I moved a pair into a 20L.

No idea

I don't know if it "binds" oxygen, but it reduces the level in the tank. You might ask at www.seachem.com/support.

Overdosing

Safe, like Prime, removes oxygen from the water. A correct dosage is no problem, and you can go up to 4x the standard dosage, but you are lowering the oxygen.

I've used Safe for years without...
