tank is currently cycling. ammonio is above 7ppm according to my api kit. must be aquasoil. i stirred it up a lot in scape...

I believe the iron being released from the skillet concept is iron oxide. From what I understand plants cannot readily use iron oxide.

Yeah I reduced the dimensions by about half an inch on one side because I could only cut in a straight line. That allowed for the pipes to fit in but the glass can still be supported by the plastic...
