I was minding my own business when my POS Coralife fixture made a sound like a dying goose swallowing a firecracker. (Yeah, yeah, it came with the used tank.) Once it's apart, I find the 6700k tube...

The only trouble I've had with my HIL was due to my own stupidity. I was so gung ho to get the system set up that I didn't plan ahead for cleaning and maintenance, and the first time getting...

I have sections of dwarf hairgrass, trimmed pretty short, and my cories spend a lot of time in it. They seem to like rubbing their bellies on it. I do low tech, so I've never tried HC.

As far as...

Tips for scaping near the filter pipe

Does anybody have tips on planting around/near the filter pipe? I'm not trying to hide the pipe; I just want a consistent, attractive design. Having no plants near it at all leaves an ugly bare spot...

Thanks for your ideas. I may have to rethink the use of frozen foods. I will switch from weekly water changes to lesser amounts twice per week; maybe that will help.

I also use large buckets, and I move them into a room I can close off to keep the cats out of them. Usually I stick them in the basement since it has the most consistent temperature.

I also do...

Are my endlers beating on my cories?

My tank consists of ~40 endlers from fry to adults, 10 albino cories, 4 panda cories, and four billion trumpet snails. There were originally 10 pandas, but one by one their tails became chewed up and...

Java fern pustules

My Java ferns are sprouting odd green pustules. I don't think they are reproductive, for the following reasons:

1. They have spread to the rhizomes and are not only on the leaves.
2. They drill...
