But if there's not enough co2 it matter not the level of ferts. Algae is more efficient at using lower co2 levels being a single cell plant.
As for the filter, without fauna at this time it serves...

There's a thing about bubbles. They don't mean a thing because there's no standard for a bubble. Up the bubble count slowly and measure the ph of the water. Important....
