I haven't kept them but they're cold water and can be kept in a 29G minimum. Pretty easy to take care of.

Yeah, I think it's pretty common. In addition to the pressure, the plastic could further be made brittle with exposure to CO2(only a theory).
That housing should be made of metal IMO.

I think the battery connection will be fine unless people yank on it constantly.

Manufacturers don't package their products with batteries for this reason unless the device is wireless/buttonless.

When shipping, disconnect the battery. When I got your package, the meter was turned on, I guess from the rough and tumble of transit.

That's how the battery was drained to 5V I think.

It's a PAR sensor meter. It's cheaper if you just buy the sensor and make your own meter :)

Different sensors will require different setup and code.

Yeah, but the 9v is convenient. You only need 1 battery instead of multiple and you need to share power with the meter.
