That piece if wood is really nice and I like the selection of plants you've chosen. I'm not sure about your overflow situation but I think a bit of foam could work.

I would remove the shortish stem plant right in the middle and add more dwarf sag to have more of a carpet at the front. I wouldn't change much else in my opinion

tannins are not harmful in the tank or to fish but my not look nice as it turns the water a brown colour, but I would soak it for another day or so just to be on the safe side. I would also scrub it...
