The ones below the carbon. Just take them out and squeeze them out in the faucet. Since they're a much finer sponge you'll have to keep up with cleaning them or ditch them for something else like you...

Very true. Gloves, goggles and plenty of fresh air are a must but you get the desired results. Rubber maid tub in the garage works fine.

Try Muriatic acid, no scrubbing involved. I cleaned a saltwater sump with it when I converted it to my 90 freshwater. Looked brand new when I was done. 1 gal bottle is like $8.

It'll have a lot of driftwood, was thinking a few Madagascar lace plants and some sort of carpet plant and maybe something else to mix it up a bit.
