I don't think it's a big deal. Just set the heater for 72, wait for a few hours, set to 74, wait for a few, and so on.

Probably wouldn't be a big deal if you let the heater heat the water as fast...

I think your desires are kind of mutually exclusive, unfortunately. All the plants I know of that are really good at this are floaters. Water lettuce, Water sprite, Salvinia minima, and so on.

They will grow rapidly planted, and produce many hundreds of little plantlets. You can pull the whole plant when they get too big, and just plant some of the plantlets. Or you can let the little...

Ceratopteris (water sprite) grows very rapidly, and should do a grand job of taking nutrients out of the water. Maybe too good if you have other plants.

Seems a little conservative, but that's just my opinion. I can't disagree with anything designed to increase the safety of the fishies.

If I were you, I'd say it's time to add some fish. Choose some robust fish like white clouds to start. I'm sure you'll find you have very little, if anything, in terms of ammonia / nitrite spikes. ...

I suppose you could, but I think it would take sphagnum quite a long toime before it broke down to the same level as the product you find marketed as "sphagnum peat moss"

A better question might...

Congo Tetras are very pretty, robust fish that reach a good size (3 inches plus)

Mine have always been nice to the other tank inhabitants, and they like the middle of the water column.

The crud from your filter, whatever it was, is nothing to worry about it. Think about it - your filter was circulating water from the tank around and through your "crud" 24/7. The fact that it's in...

Get your hands on some hydrochloric acid and test the rock you find suspicious. Limestone will bubble if you drop HCl on it. That could potentially raise your tank PH. I kind of think it won't...
