I did not. I simply picked the large pieces out. In hindsight, probably should have done so - I am still leeching large amounts of tannin ~3 months after setup. :)

Well, I suppose it "could" rot away, but it certainly looks an awful lot like it. Can you go back to the location where you found them/others? Take note of the terrain, trees, other vegetation, etc....

Congrats on the new tank setup. I too have a 55g planted. Concerning your plant growth, anubias are very slow growers, so I wouldn't expect to see much out of them, especially after initial planting....
