Let me throw this at you:

Pummice Stone or Lava rock
Bacter100 dosage however much
tons of Peat moss

in substitution of power moneygrubbing sand.

It would probably be 100-120$ less money.

When you set up the substrate can you put whatever soil you use in with water already in the tank?

Or is it optimal to add the substrate and whatever additives then add the water? If you do it...
