There is nothing wrong with using the Coralife timers. Like anything used for an aquarium, you just need to make sure the power center is in a dry place where water can't get to it.

I just realized that Riche_Guy lives in Canada. Since eheims sell for more of a premium there, you could supplement your Eheim 2028 with a Rena XP2 or XP3.

Since the FX5 is rated for huge aquariums, I would imagine so. However, I've always been a fan of having two canisters, for piece of mind in case one fails, and to stagger the monthly cleanings.

If you didn't already have the 2028, then the FX5 would be a decent filter to have. However, since you already have a really nice filter, I would just supplement it with the 2217, or a Rena XP3.
