It's a nice fish, but as you learned it can be very aggressive. It will also get too big for your tank The Pearl gourami is much more peaceful and a little smaller if you really like gourami's.

There are plants that can tolerate lower salinity brackish water. I had java fern and I think hornwort and either vals or sags (I think it was jungle vals).
