Thanks for all the input. I think I might try them. I will use part of my DIY hood which sets them about 5" over the water, and use the metal clamp light holders to help reflect some of the light...

I have a made up lighting for my 55gallon, I was thinking of switching it and found these bulbs at work.
They are GE energy smart, called 15watt but out put like a standard 60watt, they have a 6500K...

Lighting: What level is my tank?

I have a 55gallon tank. For lighting i am using a shopo light with 2 48" 40watt bulbs each with 6500k. Works out to be 1.45watts per gallon. Is this considered low or moderate lighting??

Thank you very much for your help. It's funny you mention spider-plants. My mother inlaw just taught me how to grow the babies from that, and they are doing fine.
