If you are really afraid of leaking and you want to put it in a container, look for a small plastic trash can or something similar, a 50 gallon bucket will probably not fit under your stand lol

I don't think anyone suggested putting the can in the bucket, just the intake and output.
Home Depot sells those orange buckets for 5 dollars I think, if you don't have one you should buy one anyway...

Why not just deal with them? We all do! I mean if your gonna have plants you will have snails, they keep the substrate turning and are a good thing to have in a planted tank IMO.

It's strong enough to pull up debris but not so strong as to pull sand up through the unit, save your recipt, my battery compartment got wet(supposedly fully submersible) and now the unit power...

On the top connector, you have to turn the outer part over the the tubing. The Tube should be a straight clean cut also. For the pump o-ring you should lube it...

Are you sure the motor is burnt? I ran my AC for a good while dry, still runs like a champ.
If you haven't tried yet give the impeller a flick with a toothpick, if it's not dead it should start.

Just keep an eye on it daily, my ma957 will dump every single time, when mine starts to drop I lower it a few psi every day to compensate, usually two weeks after it starts to drop it will be empty...

I asked if it was fully primed because my mag 250 did this same thing, turned out it was sucking in air causing the pump to cavitate, it seemed like it would run for a few minutes and stop then start...

A sponge on a power head is a filter, like others have stated you will probably have less co2 in a low tech tank with no surface exchange.
