On the Eccos, you can reduce the output flow by turning the lever on the quick release part of the filter (where the tubing and canister connect).

Be careful on this. I think the instructions on the Eccos caution you about filter output choices, because the filters aren't built to handle a lot of pressure. I think you'd be better off turning...

There are at least two of us. I'm one, so is Don Kinyon. There may be others who sell them from time to time. We may have "flooded" the market, so to speak.

I completely agree. I've got at least 50 juvies growing out right now. In the Washington DC area there are several folks who are breeding them, so the prices at club auctions are pretty low, as low...

Depends entirely on what you mean by large. If you think gourami are large, so that anything that size or bigger qualifies, there are probably hundreds of possibilities. Here's couple: rainbow...

Thanks

Still don't know why I didn't see these before, but you are right! I think I used "current satellite plus pro", which should have worked, but didn't. Weird.

Okay

Interesting, because I just searched again and don't see any Plus Pros, just the Plus (which is a different and less desirable model).

Satellites

I don't think you'll see the Plus Pro refurbished, but maybe I'm wrong. I see mostly Satellites and Satellite Pluses.

Probably neither: Pelvicachromis kribensis (fka taeniatus) "Moliwe." I think they'd be fine in a 20. I've kept them and Lobe in fairly small tanks. Keep the temps low, no warmer than 75F.

Good foods

I agree with all of these recommendations. I'd add Cobalt, Xtreme Aquatics, and Aqua Pharm food as examples of high quality food without much, if any filler. Cobalt and Aqua Pharm both add...

I believe the National Geographic line of aquarium equipment is simply rebranded from other companies. Some of the other Nat Geo filters are essentially Eheim Eccos. I don't know what the CF 70 is...

It will depend entirely on the brand.

From time to time, you'll see more well-known brands, like Finnex and Current. Current sells refurbished lights. I've had good luck with some models of...

The Cobalt EXT filter is rated up to 55 gallon tanks, and is pretty easy to clean. Nice handles, and the top come up for easy cleaning. Because the pump is separate from the canister body, the body...

I'd vote for an Eheim 2217, as other have suggested, or a Cobalt EXT, which is cheaper and would be great for a 38 gallon tank. Both are dead quiet.

To theDCpump: Not necessarily. In some tanks, I've had the assassins breed pretty prolifically, but not in others, and I can't figure out why.

I've been able to keep my MTS population under control with assassin snails and also manually removing as many as I can.

Good luck.

Many canister filters have valves that allow you to adjust the flow. I think all Eheims do, for example. An Eheim 2215 would work, for example.

Basically right

A few thoughts, based on my two years of keeping them:

I don't know about 60F, but 70-75F is a good range. I do weekly 50% water changes without problems. I've kept them with red cherry shrimp...

I am fairly certain that the Orbit line is intended for marine use, not freshwater use. I think you'd be better off with the Satellite Plus, or the Satellite Plus Pro.

I don't think the 24/7 will do it for that deep of a tank. I'd be tempted to get the Ray 2. I've got one on a 29 gallon tank (18" deep by 30" wide) and my plants are very happy.

The water company in Washington DC does the same thing once a year. I just continue using Prime or Safe the way I always do. Might not be a bad idea to up your dosage slightly, however.
