I believe it is some type of bacteria. It is a normal, usual problem. It usually happens in newer tanks so if yours is a newer setup that is most likely why.

Hi. I have a tank with no filters or aeration. Would it be okay to have some white cloud mountain minnows in there even without this aeration. It has a couple anubias plants in it and lots of bamboo.

The little shrimp may get munched on every once in a while however with hiding places for the shrimp this should not be a problem.
Having rasboras and shrimp will not be a problem at all.

I have also heard that live bearers like platys, mollys, swordtails, and guppies are easy.
Guppies are very easy.
