An excellent idea in removing the scum. Mad I didn't think of it myself. Took a pint plastic Coke bottle, cleaned it well, and removed the scum as you described. Works great!!!

I use a Filstar XP3 and all the output gets put into an internal CO2 reactor. I have no visible water movement in my tank at all. Plants and glosso are growing like weeds and I could not be happier.
