The advantage of having a chiller is you don't have to worry about anything, just set it to temperature you want and you're set.. It turns on and off by it self.

Thanks, they start to show their stripes and may or may not start to show color at about half inch size. The color comes after the stripes, generally.

Soft water is not really required, in Germany, they keep BTS at a higher pH, 7.6 to 8.0.. I got my colony from someone that keeps them at 6.5 pH, but I keep mines at 7.6, and I have berried BTS left...
