I suppose the reverse is true too. A large water change in the middle of the photoperiod leaves some time with not enough co2 and/or flow. Especially if a lot of maintenance is done.

Most of the plants we use spend most of their time out of water in nature. The grow bulbs would work fine but I don't think you will see enough efficiency benefits to warrant the aesthetic sacrifice....
