How about a red severum? You may have to upgrade to a larger tank when it reaches it's full adult size, but they sure are nice fish.

Very nice fish. I once had six of them in a 7 gallon planted tank. They'e smaller and in my opinion less colorful than the picture above. They're also fairly shy so don't expect to see them a lot.
