some of those bulbs loose their intensity quickly. cheap store/generic brands seem to faster than GE (my belief). either way I think their intensity really diminishes after 6 months.

The Mr aqua or true aqua brands have some 3 gallon tnks that are 8.3" in height.

I have used drylock, it works very well and suffered no fish losses. you can get several deli style cups (or whatever) and mix up different color batches using concrete tint-so you can layer colors...
