Then the solenoid is not closing completely. You'll have to remove the NV if it's after the solenoid and open the WP high and let it blow through to clear any debris.

There seems to be a lot of NO3 fear going on. Most fish are very tolerant of it. 50ppm is not high at all. Nor is 100ppm. Anyone who doesn't do regular water changes knows this from experience...
