Fleas!!

they can also lay eggs in your curtains- so often overlooked. I found out the hard way when we had huge curtains and a constant onslaught of fleas. The shaving and oiling would work too.

I would recommend cleaning them somehow- I put a water hiacynth from a pnd in my tank and lost several fish from what i think was a bacterial infection.
