You could do a pair of Bolivian Rams and a pair of Apistogramma Caucatoides (cockatoo). As long as you have hardscape and plants to break up the line of sight all should be good.

I think Kribensis will work well. I love Bolivian Rams as well, but Kribs seem bullet proof and aren't shy in the least. They are also very protective parents.

I'd go with Java Ferns and different Sword plants. Swords get big, grow quickly, and develop substantial root systems so they stay put pretty well. The Swords will need root tabs and both do well...
