Ya I agree it looks like a sword that was grown above the water, when newer leaves grow out they should look more slender. Plants that live in flooded areas change the type of leaves they produce...

People I know who use sponge filters are doing heavy water changes like twice a week 50/50. I don't think it would be a good long term filter.
