Check for mosquito larvae. I just stuck a betta in an 18 gallon rubbermaid I'm using for driftwood soaking in hopes he would eat some of them.

Aside from the "get off my lawn!" responses, I'm happy to see others enjoy his videos like I do. I currently live in Lexington, so it's cool to see a local guy drumming up interest in the hobby.

I't not a discus guy, but 30 gallons is definitely too small for the amount of discus you need to keep them happy.

Come on now, OP. If you can afford discus, you can surely afford a used 55-75 gallon tank. In a huge metropolitan area like Toronto you'd find a full setup within a week or two.

I don't understand Bettas sometimes. The oldest one I ever had spent most of his life in terrible conditions, but every one I've had in ideal conditions has lived less than a year. Tank looks good.

Yes to the space requirements, but no to the smell. That's a myth in a properly filtered/maintained aquarium.

I owned a few firebellies when I was a kid...loved them. I'd go with that.

I'd kill for .25. Our water is 2 PPM normally and higher on the weekend. That in mind, maybe it was higher because you did it on a weekend. Check again in a day, maybe?
