I don't think any halfbeak is good for shrimp. But it depends on how much you value them. Im sure its gonna eat the babies. At least.

I think it depends on the algae. Spirogyra is the worst and only grows better with co2 lights and ferts. Plant load has no effect on them or either excel.

I had a short cut where I place it on the substrate and place little rocks over corners of it to hold it down. It eventually gets a hold. But takes much longer to grow out.

There is another way but its much more wasteful. Get a T line and use clamps to control the pressure. It was something that I came up in a pintch.
