A uv sterilizer should kill BGA when it blooms. UV radiation kills algae aswell as bacteria. So why wouldn't it kill off BGA

I have been battleing hair algae in my tank for over a month now. I have a 38 gallon 17" tall tank. I've been dosing 15ML a day with SeaChem Flourish Excel. It seem to be getting rid of the algae...

the white could possibly be a fungus, and the cyanobacteria can be tamed just takes time. Cleaning it up manually works ok. I think a uv sterilizer will get rid of it too, but it also kills helpful...

ok i'm unplugging the T8's and am going to elevate the T5's a little. I plan on running them for 6 hours a day. does that sound like a good setup ?

Like chad320 said check the impeller for particles. Try cleaning the pump really well. I run two on my 40 gallon tank, and when they start to hum that is usually cleaning time.

It's a Hagen Glo dual T5 fixture. I'm going to hang the fixture from the ceiling about 14" above the top of the water column and see what that does. Thanks for the impute
