+1 on zucchini. I cut a thick slice, microwave it with water for about 1 minute, run it under cold water and drop it into the tank. Takes my BNPs about 30 seconds to start chomping at it.

The outflow from your canister should go to the top of the reactor. The bottom of the reactor goes to the fish tank.
