The journal has more photos, but that version no longer exists. My latest post to the journal is a poor quality video; just learning how to do that.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I...

I agree with Diana. Boiling or just soaking them for a while should make them ready to test with some non-critical fauna.

My 220g is 30" tall. A step stool gives me access to almost every bit of substrate, although I cannot touch bottom in the center back. Yours would not have that problem since it is not 6' long....

I would not move any of the fish, but if those swords or crypts are healthy and large I would consider bagging them for a week.

My LFS carried a full line of submersible power heads that I suspect you can find online too. I have no brand allegiance in this category. Capacity ought to be the criteria and I think mine is rated...

I do 30% changes twice per week on my 220g altum tank. Using a pump both directions makes it all happen in one hour, including the refill of the 55g water barrel that I age the water in. This aged...

I am thinking the tank will be unavailable for ~2 days.

I just met with the guy who will be helping me move the tank. He suggests leaving the fish in their temporary tanks for up to a week so as...

moving a large planted tank: the steps to take

I will be moving a 220g tank that is now full of plants and fish and shrimp. Let's figure out the best way to pull out plants, capture fauna, and re-scape the new tank, step by step. The existing...

For the record, my increased photo period has helped other plants in the tank (Taiwan lily, hydrocotyle tripartita japan, blyxa), indicating I am headed the right direction with my fix, but there has...

This is a rather poor quality video, but it is my first video attempt and was only done with a smartphone. Possibly better than no video at all:

I doubt that is it Monsterfish. There is some Blyxa japonica in there and their roots seem fairly minor. The root systems on these 220g crypts are poor compared to the ones in the 75g; just...

I think that one is C. undulata.

The lighting is 220 watts over 75g and only 18" deep, so it has been high enough for almost anything I try in there.

As mentioned above, I just changed...

I neglected to mention that I only began inserting root tabs in the 220g when the crypts were doing very poorly and looked like they needed more nutrients. They still look that way which is why I...

when crypts don't do well

My big 220g tank has consistently failed to grow cryptocorynes very well. I now have a number of wendtii, willisii and crispatula 'balansae' in there and they survive at best. I believe I have...

Yeah, I'd like to see those two pieces back to back, or somehow looking like one bigger piece in the center.

tiger lily bloom

This has been posted before on this forum, but not by me. I let my tiger lily dominate the surface of my 220g tank, covering maybe 2/3 of the 6' x 2' surface. This shaded everything and caused other...

I have always been able to grow plants in the 75g (in contrast to the 220g), and except for some bba, treating the 75g like a farm tank has worked out. Recently I just planted species I wanted to...
