As an aside, if the slate is porous just put some silicone around the perimeter of the slate then set a sheet of glass into that.Then you seal all glass to glass.

I'd try a reseal like you would any other tank...

I'd try a reseal like you would any other tank but with the 795. If it still leaked from the slate itself I'd cover the whole piece of slate with 795. Still easier than tearing it apart. I know.

Mine will grab only from the top. There is no law that says you can't downsize the pipe. Also there are other siphon designs that don't lose siphon and skim.

Siphon not restarting would be a problem for me. That's why I like the pipe in pipe although there are others out there that will keep the siphon. I also like the skimming action in an overflow.

Not yet. My nephew built 2 for his 125. I have the parts to build a couple myself. I like the skimming and the self contained aspects of it. Plus the fish house won't flood after a power outage.
