Good idea. I will check that dimension this evening. The front 1/3 of the canopy lifts for tank access so I may not get much more room even using the diagonal since the 55 is such a "skinny" tank...

Trickerie is correct. That tank in the link does not look low tech and achieving that look when low tech may not be impossible, but it's not easy. I have been keeping low tech tanks for years &...

Thanks for the heads up. I have a 55 acrylic that I picked up on CL for dirt cheap & now I know why. I spent as much on acrylic buffing stuff as I did on the tank, stand & canopy  It looks...

The first thought that came to mind was a Jag (Parachromis managuense), but all the cool tough predators will get way too big, even for a 55. I like 75s much better than 55s. Same length but more...

I have tried Eheim, Rena XP3, & Fluval (206, 406 & FX5). The Fluvals are my favorite. I have had no issues with the Eheims, workhorses, just a pain for maintenance. I have had 2 Rena XP3 & nothing...

Lighting a 20 Hex

I have a 20 gal hex tank that currently has PC light of 28 watts. It's low tech & I'm satisfied with the results I see in there. The problem is that it seems to be getting harder to find bulbs &...

That would make sense. I'll have to be more careful about that. I have not been selling any lately to try to let the population recover.
