IMO it will be fine. I have a pair in my 40B and they're fine. They are fully grown and don't come close to the vertical space limit.

if you are still having issues after what others suggested, try closing the intake on the left (closer to the overflow) if possible. That way there isn't such a bypass.

Are you 100% sure it didn't somehow hitchhike? I've had baby CRS move from tank to tanks as I move plants and things around. IME it's almost impossible for such a sudden and drastic mutation....
