A tank that's been set up for less than 2 months...

A tank that's been set up for less than 2 months is still too new. The algae still hasn't had a chance to get a foothold yet. I strongly doubt it'll be the same case in 6 months.

Carpet plants don't grow in fine sand substrates. Most people who go for sand like the light colors, so they don't cover it...

I wouldn't bother. You're just adjusting to the drastic difference between the old light and the new one. Over time you'll get used to it and wouldn't notice the cold color temp any more.
