20 long build

Hello all,

Just finished a nice dry start and flooded a few days ago. I only have mini fissidens and HC thus far, but I'm planning on adding some blyxa behind the focal point and possibly...

No, that isn't the case; it is indeed the alcohol. The amount of co2 one inhales when drinking carbonated beverages is nothing your gas exchange system can't easily handle.

Hangovers are a...

You have a pretty serious black beard algae infestation. Do you inject co2? This stuff is a bugger to rid if tank parameters aren't adjusted and kept as such. I had it once, and dialing up my...

I'd say the mixture is making its' way into your tank. You may have an unrelated bacterial bloom or the start of greenwater; co2 injection will not make your water cloudy. How old is the tank? Any...

Re: What is this rock?

Ieither that, or you have asphalt chunks. Ha! Tough for me to see the surface pattern. It looks exactly like my black lava rock, though.

Re: What is this rock?

Looks like you have some black lava rock. What are your concerns? I wouldn't be worried about any sort of toxicity -the most it could do is raise your Ph, but I doubt it will. Its most likely inert.

Re: Who Listens to vinyl?

Great taste in music in here....awesome! Was particularly surprised to see the 311 album; it's a fantastic one.

Pink Floyd's "Animals" is my favorite to listen to on vinyl. And I'm so very...

Re: first timer here. Iwagumi project

Hello :) if I had anything to offer, it would be to use the larger stone as a focal point a third of the way in from either side of the tank and use the others to accent it. Also-it will look a lot...

Re: Woodscape for 20L; critiques welcome!

Thanks for taking the time to respond, friend. I took out the two smaller branches in the rear; there will be blyxa and stems there and they would distract from the Flora. I agree about the middle...

Hello all :) I've been playing around with this scape and think I've settled on this. Opinions?

Re: New tank with ADA substrate questions

I've been using the same aquasoil over and over in different escapes for 3+ years. It does not need replacing on a yearly basis...so don't fret.

Re: Thought I knew about algae... I was wrong

Ah. Yup, it definitely has something to do with it. It is essentially a new tank given the new substrate and lighting, so it hasn't reached a balance yet. I suspect your ammonia levels are a bit...

Re: Thought I knew about algae... I was wrong

Okay. Well, that isn't a bad value...a pretty safe range, provided dosing/co2 is well adjusted.

Is this a new tank? I meant to ask that earlier.

Re: Thought I knew about algae... I was wrong

How far is the light from the substrate? Any specs on PAR? Seems like you may be pushing it a bit with that fixture right over a small tank, but again, I don't know the details...just...

Re: Thought I knew about algae... I was wrong

The first compound you listed is potassium phosphate; it design not contain any nitrate.

Uptake < plant use. If your nitrates are climbing with your dosing regimen, just do a wc and dial it back...

Re: dosing lots of baking soda

Why not just buy some bulk glutaraldehyde and make your own carbon source? What do you mean by "high levels"? If you keep dosing large amounts of baking soda into a tank without water changes, your...

Re: Holes in dwarf baby tears old growth

Have you calibrated your test kit? Also- a drop checker is a loose gauge of co2 levels at best; I'm going to say you need to raise your co2 concentration and see what happens. HC will survive at...

I went through a similar situation, but mine occurred a few months after the dry start. Like you, all tank parameters were perfect-lighting was just enough, all ferts were non-limiting (verified by...

No. I only saw alage on my substrate when the water level was too high during the dry start; formed on the glass at the substrate level as well.

I strongly suggest you swap those 20-watt bulbs for 13-watts; trust me. I had plenty of CO2 and ferts and still has issues with algae with those lights until I stepped it down. If you had a lot of...
