Doh! Hope not all of them. They mostly hide out in the plants though I do spot for them crawling on the HC in plain site of the fish and haven't witnessed any assasinations yet.

Yes that would work, you can use short or long plates in the same clamp. Really Right Stuff used to have a foot that replaced the nikon one on the 70-200 but looks like they only have it for the VR2...
