I am just guessing that you don't have enough CO2 because you have so much light. I could be totally wrong, but I'm making an educated guess, based on personal experience and the amount of time I've...

Low nutrients + super high light + what sounds to be insufficient CO2 (this is just purely a guess) = algae. Nutrients are a good thing in planted tanks. The more light you have, the more nutrients...

Welcome to the hobby!

It looks like you might need to do a little bit of research about the role of lighting in freshwater planted aquariums. That is an insane amount of lighting for this type of...

Diatoms brush off very easily. Just clean them up the best you can by hand. As long as your other tank is conducive to growing healthy plants, you should be fine

Fair enough. I used to make solutions, too. It does work well for smaller tanks like yours. Also, just a quick note: don't rely too heavily on test kits. They are notoriously inaccurate, and...

No worries. You could just dump the dry ferts straight into the tank, too. Just make sure to use the correct measuring spoon and dump them right in

Well, if you want it to be 16 doses of 1/8 tsp nitrate, which would give you around 10 ppm nitrate per dose, you'd need to dose 1oz of the solution, since you used 16oz of water, unless I missed...

If you aren't going to use any source of carbon (co2 or Excel), you shouldn't run more than one of the lights. Even then, you may have trouble. The higher the lighting, the more the plants want to...

Both of those are fine to grow plants, but the k ratings have nothing to do with light intensity, which is what drives plants growth/potential algae problems. What are the wattages of the bulbs?

More info is needed here. What are the tank specs? Size, lighting, co2, ferts, filtration, etc.?

Yeah, that is a ton of light for that tank. With DIY CO2, I'd seriously consider only running one of them. The higher the light, the less room there is for error with CO2 and fert dosing. The...

Here's my $0.02.

Lighting: What wattage are the bulbs? This is the key, as I have a feeling that you might have a ton of light on this tank. There's no real need to run the lights for 12 hours,...

I hate to say it, but it sounds like it's still a CO2 problem, then. The Excel will likely help, as it will provide more carbon and act as an algaecide, but I wouldn't be surprised if the BBA came...

That's a good start, but you'll still need a source for N, P, and K. Flourish is just micros/traces.

IMHO, keep the light way down until you can get ferts and co2 in order, or you will run into...

Is this for the tank in your sig? If so, that is a TON of light. Even half of that would still be plenty (but much more manageable, at least). I would reduce the light significantly for right now....
