At least 22-23Ga intercome wire if the run is fairly short .. i.e 3-6ft.

"Personally" I use solid copper 18ga thermostat...

almost all white LED's are short in the blue/green region of the spectrum (cyan) so if you want to "punch" up plants that are prone to this tone you need to add cyan..

Probably about 3X the upfront cost of MH or T5/MH combo...but that is really "top end" for a planted tank..and bottom end...
