Just be careful of the type of tree. Generally only hardwoods are acceptable. I know evergreens and similar trees have a sap that can kill fish.

Why not use a sponge filter with a battery airpump? It'd only be on for 8 hours a day and you could use rechargeable batteries to save on cost.

I LOVE that driftwood. 10L is like 2.7-2.6 gallons right? The scape makes it look easily twice or three times as big (which I guess is what everyone with a small tank is aiming to do so good job!)
