Strangely enough when I had used fluorite - the pH in that tank was always about 6.5 or lower and the shrimps loved it. Both of the species thrived well & bred at this pH.

Wow, my assassin is so big I think it's just merely ignoring all of the pest snails (b/c they're so much smaller). I guess this might be a problem.

I was just gonna say....your problem to begin with is: the betta. Bettas all have unique personalities but if you find dead shrimps or abandoned eggs, it's def the betta!

I'm new to these snails. Just got a few recently. What kind of conditions (temp/pH/kH) do they prefer? Especially to get them breeding.

Flourite for sure. The plants grow great in this stuff. Only downside to fourite is that it's so fine that new (unrooted) plants have trouble anchoring down. But after they root in this is the best...

Thanks for the reference. I actually looked up and found that article online, it was quite informative. I didn't realize this species was more comfortable in fast flowing/strong current type waters....
