If there were no fish for awhile, most of the bio-bacteria have probably starved. Just refill the tank and start a cycle like normal. If you're lucky, it won't take too long.

I don't think they'll be an issue, upside-downs are peaceful. You may want to add more, though, they're a schooling species of catfish.

How many guppies?
Don't feed your guppies at the surface if you want them to last longer. Butterflyfish don't dive, so anything that stays below them should be reasonably safe.

You might want to finish your post.
They get about 4" long and live at the surface. They'll eat most small fish and can be a bit picky sometimes. Not wonderful for community tanks.

Bettas are probably pretty high up on the list, as are common goldfish. Wild bettas are probably smarter than captives, since they were never bred to fight.

Choc gouramis are fairly timid, white skirts are rather aggressive. Not a good combo. The chocs will probably end up with no pectoral fins after awhile.

If you end up getting some, why not try breeding them? Spread them around the trade a little bit.

Very pretty boy!
You should get him some toys, maybe a plastic toddler teething toy or something for him to mess with. I've heard they like ping-pong balls to mess with, too.
