i rinsed the crap out of the sand. neither set up had ever been treated with medicine.

i did break down one of them yesterday, and and i am starting to build a vivarium in it.

idk what your water is like, but why not do cardinal tetras? in a smaller tank like that you wouldnt need as many, so it won't be as costly as if it was a 40g

it very likely could be nutrient def. it could also just be the anubias adjusting to your set-up. when i move my anubias from higher light tanks to low light tanks i do end up losing some leaves.
