I'd trim the hc down to the soil. New growth should spread low.

Q: is the hc shaded at all by all the stems? if so, that would be less than ideal.

Up your phosphorus dose. that tend to keep gsa to a minimum. but i think a little is pretty inevitable.

And scrape it off. something like a credit card works well.

chemi-clean will remove the bga.

stop it from coming back by reducing the photo time and make sure nitrates don't get to zero. You need decent flow too (a gentle sway).

It really doesn't mater.

Tanks with tall rock at the back often have the intake just under the water line. My 2ft is like this and I've had no problems because of it.

Cleaning rocks with 5% household bleach is fine. I do it before a rescape.

Not sure if I'd do the same with dw. Just scrub it. How dirty can it be?
