I like 1 mystery snail, but keep in mind it'll end up around the size of a golf ball when fully grown.

Lots of people like ramshead snails.

I don't know about swords, but with crypts I remove dead/dying leaves by pulling them down and off, kinda like peeling a banana. Then snip the roots down to 2cm or so.
