I too use a 50/50 on one of my tanks b/c it makes the colors in my fish pop. And I too have heard that it would do little to no good for my plants but they dont seem to mind :)

Thats what I did with mine. It was a PITA but I got it done. I cut smaller sections with good roots forming and replanted that all along the bottom. I should have a nice carpet growing here soon.

36 gal Bow front Corner tank Hood

Yes it took a couple of days for my tank to clear up. After that I did a water change and it was crystal clear the next day and has been ever since. My green water was a result of an ammonia spike....

You should just invest in a MH system. Probally would save you some money in the long run. Bulbs last long I think. And you wouldn't have to worry about light getting all the way to the bottom of...

The only thing a UV will affect, that I know of so far, is iron. The problem with running one 24/7 is the flow rate it needs to kill green water was much slower then what my canister filter was...
