I like how filled out it looks. Helps keep the fish in a nice viewing area at the front of the tank too when they physically cant get into the thick stuff in back. :)

Im running T5 light over my non-CO2 tank as well...

Im running T5 light over my non-CO2 tank as well and just dosing with Excel and I find 7-8 hours works good for me in order to keep algae growth to a minimum.
