Microworms are easy to culture, can stay at room temp, but you do have to deal with the smell of fermenting oats. I've fed Dario dario black worms and they love it as well, but need more attention...

If your substrate is pure sand, I agree with Cories... Any species really. Small fish may become lunch for your betta and the quick swimming white clouds will scare any micro fish into hiding.

These little fish often get mislabeled from the distributor/supplier. Same thing happened to me from a very reputable fish store, ended up with 3 different rasboras and none are chili for sure.

Your tank could use a trim and replant the tops, mainly the S. Repens and A. Reineckii. This would eventually add plant mass which you are lacking. I would also recommend slowly increasing your CO2...
